Ben, thanks for the good word!

I think the common dilemma of people i talk to and myself... is that the space we all need is really hard to come by. We can blame that on a noisy culture, we can blame on a busy life but dilemma is not new. I think you can find a lot of this even in the scripture. Yea man, it's hard!

But i think we not only need this kind of silent space in our lives but we need a new kind of noise. Not many of us are really open to the noise we need. The noise of God's voice... the noise of a community that you really let really speak into your life... the noise of Spirit as we really engage the text of the bible and many other things. I guess it's really the noise of God's voice that we need to dial into. and there are lots of ways to turn it up. But that's hard to... right.

Thanks for the good word man!

erik...the beauty of the passage from james you quoted is if you look in the greek the word translated as "trial" in the part you quoted is later translated as "temptation" ("when anyone is tempted, do not let them say they have been tempted by God...") how the word is translated and it seems how the writer of james is saying the situation is defined is based on how we respond to the ?????????. one response evokes perseverance which develops righteousness...the other evokes self, sin and death.

personally, in moments such as these i have to make space. make space to be silent. in the midst of the silence all the voices that have become so loud in my life begin to rise to the surface one by one. as each voice comes i bring it before the feet of Jesus asking Him to silence it if it is not His and give wisdom and revelation so i can understand what He's trying to say to me if it is.

not sure how all this fits in with where you're at but wanted to share. i believe in you and the Spirit in you....

Marshall, it's early! In my 5 years at Olivet i met plenty of guys who were drinkers. Not that i advocate that. ;-) and that's why that video is so hilarious, it's Olivet... the beer pong capital of the world. Hilarious!

and that wedding must have been awesome for people to still be talking about it! WOW!!!

I don't think that it was necessarily bad in and of itself. It depends on how things were portrayed and presented. If the Eucharist was indeed part of the service, the concern about maintaining the sacredness of the communion is certainly valid, but if the priest had held a special prayer service in addition to the normal Eucharist that seems awesome!

I am not sure how getting people together to pray can ever really be a bad thing, but it seems to me that it might have been a way of getting people to bring their faith into their everyday life. Too often we have our work life, our social life, our religious life, and our family life separated from each other and the more that we can bring everything under the authority of Christ the stronger our faith and walk will be.

We are called to pray continually.
We aren't forbidden from getting excited about sport.
Q.E.D.: We should pray while watching soccer?

Yikes. Seems like people (people like myself) don't need any added assistance in confusing the things that are the gospel and the things that aren't. Soccer is a wonderful thing, I have a whole new appreciation for it after this world cup, but its not the gospel. It's not what we celebrate in the context of Christian worship. however, there have been much worse offenses by the church throughout the centuries than this one! And when in doubt we can sin boldly and trust boldly in Gods grace. Thanks for posting this E.
